Softball Team Trounces

This season for the Lady Indians softball team has been one of the best since the 1980s. This group of seniors has been working together since middle school to create a team bond that wins championships, and this was their year.

They ended their season with a record of 21 wins, and 9 losses, one of the best records in South History. The last time the Indians won over twenty games was in the early 1990s. They even “Ruled the River'' as they swept both East and North in regular season conference games.

In addition, the team also won two championships. On May 11, the Lady Indians played in the Ocean County Tournament against Southern Regional. The last time they were in the final was in 2019, and they lost to the Brick Memorial Mustangs. They were determined to make this their year, and they won the game 1-0. Janelle Blaszka pitched a no-hitter, and had 9 strikeouts. The Indians had stellar defense that helped contribute to the no-hitter, and it was a tight game for both teams, as the score was 0-0 going into the fifth inning. At the top of the 5th, Izzy LaPerry had a single to center, and Ally Malek was subbed in to run. With two outs and Ally on first, Chloe Seluchins was up to bat and hit a double down the right field line, and scored the only run needed to win. The Indians held the Rams from scoring for the remaining two innings, and officially became Ocean County Tournament champions, their first title since 1989.

On May 31, the Indians played Central Regional for their Senior Night, and all eight seniors were able to contribute to the win. The Indians won 6-0, and Emma Brubaker made the final out with a fly ball catch in left field. This win over Central Regional gave the Indians the A-South Conference Title.

Overall, this season has been the best record for the Indians since the early 90s, and they look to continue to grow their abilities in the years to come. To the incredible group of seniors, thank you for all you did for South Softball, and we look forward to seeing all you will do in the future!
