The Cedar Berry presents, The Toms River South Theatre Guild!

After a long awaited return, The Toms River South Theatre Guild was back with their first fully in-person performance since March of 2020. On December 2nd and 3rd of 2021, the Thespians were proud to present A Christmas Carol as a live radio play, directed by Mrs. Perry and co-directed by Mr. Johnson.

Starring Aidan Panno as Scrooge, Brian Beehler as Bob Cratchet, Evan Hilla as Jacob Marley and Tiny Tim, and many more, the thespians put on a remarkable performance adorned with shadow silhouettes and live sound effects. Both the cast and crew worked side by side for weeks to put on a show fitting for their long awaited return to the live stage.

When asked about his thoughts on the theatre guild’s return to the stage, Technical Director Mr. Johnson excitedly responded, “We didn’t know what to expect, we didn’t know if we’d have 10 people show up or 100. It’s so different being able to perform with a live audience, it really made a difference.”

A few interviews with the cast revealed that the experience of a radio play was certainly a change of pace, showing a variety of elements that the audience wouldn’t normally get to see. Some cast members found the change in style to help with performance anxiety, for example, their very own Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come, Isabella Lopez, shared how she felt “less nervous, as you don’t see the audience” behind the Scrim screen used to portray the silhouettes of the play.

The Toms River South Theatre Guild welcomes one and all to come and partake in their shows, whether cast or crew. Even if you don’t sing, dance, or act, there is something for all who enjoy participating in theatrical productions. Moreover, if you aren’t interested in getting involved with the making of the show, the theatre guild is always appreciative of support from both students and staff alike.

Although auditions for their upcoming production of Tarzan are over there is still an opportunity for anyone interested to join the crew and help bring the show to life. If you have any questions about getting involved, feel free to contact the guilds directors Mrs. Perry and Mr. Johnson in rooms F1 and A17 respectively.
