Basketball Season Winding Down

The 2021-2022 winter season is coming to an end soon, which means the same for our beloved Toms River South basketball team. While the results haven’t been what the players or coaches had hoped, there has been plenty of good to come out of this season.

The Indians kicked off the season with an impressive win over the Lakewood Piners 61-46, and in what is probably the team’s best moment, they defeated their rival Toms River East off of a Gavin Miglioli buzzer beater. It was a stunning victory for the Indians and one that they will never forget.

To get a better insight on the iconic shot, as well as the season as a whole, I sat down with player Gavin Miglori for an intense one on one interview:

1. How do you feel about the season so far?

Gavin Miglioli: I feel like the season isn’t going as I would like it to but we play hard every game. I’m just proud of how we haven’t fallen apart as a team and continue to stick together

2. With your high school south basketball career coming to an end, what is your favorite memory over the years?

Gavin Migliori: My favorite memory has to be the buzzer beater against east. To hit that type of shot down 2 points in their home court is something i'll remember forever

3. How did you feel when you made the game winning shot against East? What were some of the emotions you felt?

Gavin Miglioli: I actually felt surprised because when I shot it I didn't think it was going in. But i just was so excited and relieved to win that game

There you have it folks, the answers to our questions have finally been answered. I thank Gavin Miglioli for making time for this interview during the home stretch of the season. Gavin looks to break the school’s record of most three point shots in a single season. To achieve this he needs 13 more in 4 games. I just know he can do it.

Even though the season has been mostly disappointing. There are things to look forward to. 8 out of the 13 players on the varsity roster are juniors and sophomores that are ready to take over after our seniors graduate. The future is looking bright for our basketball team.
