After a back to back win to win season, The Cedar Berry interviewed Head Coach Mr. Correll of the Tennis Team to get his take on a group of athletes that brought South Girls Tennis 2021 OCT and Class A South Championship titles.
How do you feel about TR Tennis?
TR Tennis is fantastic, I will tell you what, we got Toms River South, North, and East. All teams are well coached and they work hard and that’s what makes it exciting coaching tennis in Toms River. Not only that, we got some great programs like the Toms River Country Club, we have a guy, Jake Dumseh, that gives lessons and they make Toms River tennis what it is.
How do you feel about the Seniors?
Our five Seniors are fantastic, the reason we’re having an indianific season is because of those five seniors. Starting with: Emma, Janelle, Abbie, Arianna, and Sadie. Without those five, these tennis balls that are going up this year, wouldn’t be going up, because they all five, are champions.
How did you get into coaching tennis in the first place?
I played at South [from] 1978-1982 for the legendary coach Kenny Ashman, in 1991, he asked me to be his assistant coach. Then in 2006 I got the varsity job, and again man, as long as you love what you do and you have a passion for it, it’s not a job, it’s just coming to work each day and having fun.
