The most important holiday in China that’s also widely celebrated in Vietnam and South Korea, is called Lunar New Year. Lunar New Year follows the Chinese Calendar, which follows the agricultural production cycle, and Lunar New Year is the one period where farmers can rest. This year is the water tiger which signifies action, strength, bravery and cleansing away evil.
Traditionally, people celebrate by making paper figurines and food to share with friends and family. The food symbolizes prosperity and togetherness. To prepare for the festivities, people clean their households as a way to cleanse away unnecessary spirits. People celebrate for 16 days and get 7 days off on this auspicious occasion.
